Seasonal Specials: New Beer and Wine Offerings

We’re offering two spectacular adult beverages, a new beer and a special red wine, to spice up your evenings at home for the month of November.

Family-owned Fremont Brewing, creator of award-winning beers, released Sky Kraken in 2019. Quickly becoming a local favorite, this naturally unfiltered, crisp, hazy pale ale has an aroma of light melon and citrus balancing slightly sweet and slightly bitter notes. Smooth carbonation and a medium-light body make it eminently drinkable.  Hop enthusiasts will want to know. It’s made with Strata, Mosaic and a touch of Citra hops and 2-Row Pale malt, malted oats, white wheat and flaked wheat. It goes well with your favorite pizza (doesn’t all beer!).

We are also excited to bring you an incredible red blend from àMaurice Cellars, a small, family-owned and operated winery located just east of Walla Walla, Washington in the Blue Mountain foothills. The Schafer family started the winery in 2004. Wine and Spirits magazine has cited them as one of the Top 100 Wineries of the World.

Their 2014 Estate Red Blend Night Owl is a tasteful union of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc from their estate vineyards. Its deep purple color has tones of ripe black cherries and cassis. The full-bodied wine is supple on the palate and scored an impressive 92 from The Wine Advocate.

Bryan Hill, Sales Manager for àMaurice, says, “there are a lot of forest floor notes in this wine, and it has been said what grows together, goes together. While grape vines don't grow in a dense forest, mushrooms pair especially well with this wine, along with anything tomato.  So, pile on the mushrooms, or go simple with cheese, open a bottle of our 2014 Night Owl Red Blend and enjoy a perfect fall dinner.

The winemaker, Anna Schafer, specializes in Bordeaux-style blends. Unlike some of the big, oaky, juicy wines that come out of Walla Walla, the wines from àMaurice Cellars let the fruit talk first and use the oak to frame it. Their wines run in the $35 to $80 range and are a good value at that price. We also carry their more affordable fruit-forward table wine, Pour Me, in both red and white blends.

So whether you’re looking for an excellent wine for a special occasion, an everyday indulgence, or an inspired local beer, we think you’ll like what we’re offering for the month of November.
