Our Upcoming Giveaway: The Confectionery

Surprising our customers with treats is our way of sharing some joy in this uncertain time. It’s also a way to support some of our peers whose business has been hit hard by recent events. With over $200,000 worth of treats purchased as gifts for our customers, the greatest reward is the positive response from our customers and the community it’s building with industry.

Our next giveaway is a sampling of sweet delights from The Confectionery. Order a whole pie this Saturday (May 15) and while supplies last we’ll include a selection of Confectionary customer favorites.

The Confectionery, located in University Village, has been family-owned and operated for the last 52 years. Walking through the front door like entering a childlike dream. It’s a kaleidoscopic visual delight. Glass jars brim with colorful sweets—chocolates and truffles, caramels, toffees, malted milk balls, Jelly Belly beans, licorice, gummies, sours, salt water taffy, gumballs, marzipan and hard candy, to name just a few—and creamy white shelves that stretch to the stamped-tin ceiling from a red terrazzo floor that resembles crushed candy.

Kristi Holmes, the owner, fulfilled a childhood dream when she bought The Confectionery from the previous owner after working there for 11 years. As a lifetime lover of candy, with nearly three decades of experience selling it, she knows where to find the best and how to help customers find old favorites and discover new ones. Kristi and her staff know how hard it is to choose the perfect treat from so many beguiling choices. As you can imagine, quite a few customers who can barely reach the counter come in with their hard-earned money. The Confectionery crew listens carefully and helps their littlest customers curate their dream bag of sweets. In addition to filling candy jars for a large cadre of grown-ups, they’re also masters at helping customers put together gifts and party favors.

Due to the coronavirus, The Confectionery has had to transition to offering curbside pickup, neighborhood delivery and shipping (customers from around the country place orders). “It is hard seeing the business I have worked so hard to create be so quiet,” Kristi says. “We feel very fortunate to partner with Pagliacci. It has allowed us to bring some of our employees back to work. We miss making our customers happy when they pick out their sweets and are excited that Pagliacci is delivering our sweets to them.”
