If you’ve ordered a pizza from us recently, you’ve noticed that we changed our box art. The new design tells the story of the box itself. You’ve heard of farm to table… we’re talking about forest to table. In our efforts to find more ways to be sustainable, we took a hard look at our pizza packaging. There are not a lot of options available. The cardboard box is an industry standard for a reason. Instead of trying to reinvent the box, we decided to take a look at what goes into making it. This led us to learn more about the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and their certification process. FSC promotes responsible management of the world’s forests. Their certification process tracks the chain of custody of the wood fibers used in the making of paper products to sustainable forests. At this time there are not a lot of box manufacturers who have attained FSC certification. We were fortunate to find Port Townsend Paper and Crown Packaging. Port Townsend Paper Mill is not only FSC certified, they ensure the wood and recycled materials used in their corrugated paper come from the Pacific Northwest. They then ship the cardboard to their sister company, Crown Packaging, who turn it into our pizza boxes. We hope you enjoy learning a little more about what goes into our boxes – beyond the great pizza. If you haven’t read the story, you can find it here.
